Monroe was a genuinely special man. He came from the old school, where values such as decency and tenderness still mean something. He conducted himself with a grace and generosity that’s all too rare these days. To me he was a true friend and a loving father-in-law. I remember him today with a mix of sadness at his passing and gratitude for all that he meant to me during his life. Above all I thank him for creating Judy, my wife and soul mate, in whom her father’s extraordinary personal qualities live on. Monie: I salute you. I miss you. And yet I know you’re still close to me. Stephen (with a "ph")
